Another sharp pain shot through her shoulder blades, leaving them stinging in the aftermath. That was all she could feel and sense. Her ears began to ring as she cried out again and in the distance, she heard a voice. A voice that seemed all too familiar. Slowly Essia began to return to herself and found Chard kneeling in front of her.
Almost blindly, she reached out to him, grasping his shoulder in a strong grip as another stabbing pain ripped through her shoulders. It was then that she saw it, a shimmer in the water. Through her tears, she focused on the shining light in the water. Only, it wasn’t in the water, but reflecting off of it. Turning, she gasped in horror as she realized the shining light was coming from the two scars on her shoulder blades. Shifting her eyes to Chard’s face, hoping she wasn’t going crazy in what she saw.
Licking her lips, she tasted the blood on them and winced at the cut upon her lip. Had she really been in that much pain that she had caused herself harm? She could now feel that very same blood dripping down her chin and her eyes moved back to Chard. Realization hit and she sprung up so fast that her legs didn’t have time to support her. Instead she fell into Chard, grasping onto him so she didn’t drown herself in the knee-high shore.
“Chard, please.” She begged, beginning to feel that familiar sting on her shoulders again as she looked up at him. “Please, get me to my quarters. I might have something there to help.”
